Weather Summary Tropical--Erin again has been upgraded...now to a cat 3 strength. Currently (5 pm), the storm is centered at 32.9N 63W with sustained winds of 105 kt and a central pressure of 968 mb. Not much additional strengthened is expected as the hurricane moves to the NNW and then with a turn to the right. The shear environment is low ahead of the storm until the trough moves out to sea. Erin is forecasted to slow even more during the next 24-36 hr due to the blocking ridge in the Atlantic. The SST's right now are good but will cool as the storm moves further to the north. This will help Erin to weaken after 36 hrs. Elsewhere, the remains of TD 7 is orgainzed itself with the other wave and contains a broad area of low pressure (1010 mb). This is forecasted to make a strong curve to the north by models. Another wave will emerge from the African coast in the next few days. |
