Global Hawk Report
Droposonde - being installed;
- perhaps a bit behind schedule for Saturday. Grinding metal for support frame. Once frame installed, the dropsonde instrument itself is integrated.
HAMSR – green. Worked very well. Fine tuning
LIP - green
HIWRAP - green
WB57
HIRAD arrives next week.
AMPR arrives on 7Sept
Suitcase flights will be out of MacDill AFB, Tampa FL
DC8 Report
Aircraft status – green. Crew hard down day
- LASE – green. Good flight
- LARGE – green. Didn’t see a lot of aerosols because not
- APR2 – green. Excellent flight
- DAWN – Kavaya – encouraged but the laser has a slow degradation in flight due to thermal impacts. To get winds you need both lidar and laser working well. Lidar is aligned well so it now depends upon the laser to get good winds through out the flight.
- Microphysics – all but CSI are green. CSI awaiting pylon remanufacture
- MMS – green. Uploaded data to GRIP website. Vertical winds show a glitch early in flight – perhaps a piece of ice hit the probe early.
- Dropsonde – green. Training flight with 8 drops all good returns with intermittent data lost
Recap 17Aug flight
Data and communication issues uncovered during the flight
RTMM had a few glitches – but most/all will be resolved soon.
DC8 on alert to PGI27 on Friday. Long ferry so expect a 8hr flight
