Hurricane Earl Day 2. Flight departed FLL at earliest time permitted by crew rest. Flew three completed figure fours with six passes through the eye. Launched 28 dropsondes. All instruments operated however PIP failed on descent. Monitored conditions at STX as permitted by SatPhone and XChat throughout flight. Landing in St. Croix decided by achieving radio contact with the control tower and telephone contact with the FBO. Established contact with stranded ground crew and instructed them to go to the airport. Landing, servicing, and departure were uneventful. |
