16 Sep 2010 Tri-Agency Mission Scientist Report - Robert Houze
The storm of interest today was Hurricane Karl, which involved unprecedented coordination between the agencies. The NASA DC8, Global Hawk and WB57 investigated Karl, along with NOAA 42 and 49 aircraft, while the Air Force provided C130J aircraft to provide fixes on the storms center. The Global Hawk made 20 passes over the eye of the storm with six of the passes coordinated with the DC8. The Global Hawk conducted over-flights of the storm during its overnight intensification toward Category 3.
