Planning for what could be the last day of rain events in the area for awhile in the SGP region. The upper-level jet will help force some elevated showers and storms over the panhandle and into northern OK later tonight, and overnight as the trough progresses eastward. Some light rain and chances of passing storms during the afternoon, before the bigger event is forecast to happen after 03Z near the SGP. Current models indicate the best chance of widespread precip over north-central OK between 06-12Z overnight. Some light precip lingering behind into early Wednesday morning.

After a long period of dry conditions will persist likely through the weekend.

Forecast for Day 0: 

After some light rain in the area this afternoon, the 500 mb vorticity and upper-trough begin to push through NW OK and eastward. By 00Z expecting thunderstorms developing over the OK panhandle, and progressing eastward, slowly to reach the SGP region between 03-06Z. The highest probable time for heavier widespread convection over north-central OK appears to be between 06-12Z, and lingering into Wednesday morning.

After morning showers move out, northwesterly winds will pick up and clear out by the afternoon.

Day 2:

Forecast for Day 2: 

Thursday will be mostly clear and sunny over the entire mid section of the US, as the upper ridge progresses over the inter-mountain region.

Extended Outlook: 

Things look to remain clear through the end of the week. A storm system over Canada will try to kick off a few things possibly in CO, or even further south late in the weekend. But not looking too likely, with no upslope flow for the CO mountains.
