Instrument Debrief for HAMSR
Sortie Number: 05-9025
Instrument Performance:
HAMSR continues to operate well-- with none of the thermal problems seen in Dryden test flights. We did see a 'jump' downward of about 1 dB in the raw voltages from the 55 GHz radiometer channels midway through the flight. This didn't affect the data quality, but we will want to investigate the cause next time we have the instrument out of the pod.
We have been examining the 118 and 55 GHz oxygen bands, and can use the difference between brightness temperatures of matched oxygen opacities to detect ice scattering as a function of altitude. In todays data, for instance, we could see that cloud tops were not as high as they were on the July 2 flight. We hope to use these results in quick look products.
