Instrument Debrief for LIP Sortie Number: 05-9030 Instrument Performance: LIP performance excellent - best yet. All LIP sensors worked well. Conductivity Probe 1 (CP1) problems appear now to be corrected following overhaul of CP1 front end Large electric fields and frequent (2-5 flashes per minute and more at times)lightning observed associated with the Category 4 Hurricane Emily. This storm produced some of the largest electric fields and greatest amount of lightning observed in a hurricane not in process of making landfall. |
