Plan of the Day
Tuesday May 17th
Operations:
Plans for an ER-2 shakedown mission with a 19 UTC takeoff with sampling over western Nebraska and eastern Colorado was scrubbed.
A mission is planned to sample light precipitation over the Central Facility in northern Oklahoma with an ER-2 takeoff at 05 UTC and Citation takeoff at 06 UTC. Depending on precipitation development the ER-2 may perform a land surface measurement leg. In the case that light precipitation does not develop over northern Oklahoma sampling in Kansas and Nebraska will be considered as a secondary option.
Longer-term plans include consideration of a mission over Colorado Wednesday evening into Thursday morning and Thursday afternoon into evening convection in the Oklahoma region and more widespread precipitation on Friday. These plans are complicated not only be the forecasts of precipitation over Oklahoma, but also by possible severe weather conditions at Offutt AFB.
We will have an afternoon update to refine takeoff time for tonight, and considerations for Colorado mission tomorrow.
Instruments:
CIP is to be delivered today so should be put back on Citation and available for tonight's mission over CF.
