HAMSR over Matthew
Friday, September 24, 2010
HAMSR performed well in the Matthew flight, with one exception: we lost channel 19 early in the flight, and that prevented for a while the transfer of quicklook images to RTMM. That problem was fixed in time for the storm portion of the flight, and we had the benefit of near-real-time HAMSR images (except for ch. 19) for real-time flight planning, as we did for Karl (and to some extent for Earl as well). There was no clearly discernable eye, but the HAMSR images suggested a convective center, which agreed well with the NHC estimate. We used the HAMSR images to modify the butterfly pattern as the storm approached land.
The attached file has some screenshots from RTMM.
